Recently, it was learned that the achievements of “Research on Grassland Herdsman Economy and Sustainable Development of Pastoral Areas” completed by Professor Hou Xiangyang from College of Grassland Science of SXAU and other scholars won the first prize of the fifth Grassland Science and Technology Award of Chinese Grassland Society.
This achievement is the result of more than 10 years of scientific research and academic accumulation by an academic team composed of scholars from Shanxi Agricultural University, Grassland Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Lanzhou University led by Professor Hou Xiangyang. “Research on Grassland Herdsman Economy and Sustainable Development of Pastoral Areas”mainly focuses on the core issue of livestock production and sustainable use of grasslands in pastoral areas. Starting from the weak point of research on the impact of herdsman behavior decisions on grassland degradation and restoration, the research team, supported by key projects and general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation Management Department, after more than 10 years of research, has studied the behavior mechanism of herdsman overloading and livestock reduction and in particular, important breakthroughs have been made in livestock reduction by herdsmen. This is the first and only grassland science and technology award for the cross study of grassland science and economic management so far, which reflects the development of grassland science in China from one side.
